Film Summary

Parasite is an Acadamy Award winning South Korean dark comedy thriller film directed by Bong Joon-ho. The film jumps from being a comedy-drama in the first half to horror in the second as it tells the story of a poverty-stricken family, the Kims, who cunningly place themselves in the service of the Parks, an obscenely wealthy household who have been unknowingly harboring a stranger in their basement for years. As the story evolves, we see greed and class discrimination threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.

A miracle of a film. It feels like Bong Joon-ho’s already extraordinary career has been building to this: a riotous social satire that’s as gloriously entertaining as it is deeply sardonic.
